South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation addresses concerns raised by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

This press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan, dated March 30, 2026, addresses concerns raised by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Volker Turk, regarding the situation in South Sudan. The government expresses disappointment over the statements made by Mr. Turk, particularly accusations against the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) related to military actions and contamination of water sources. The government detailed the attacks by the SPLM/A-IO and White Army and described the SSPDF’s military operations, “Operation Enduring Peace,” to reclaim occupied towns and ensure the restoration of law and order. They also clarify that the claims of water contamination are unsubstantiated and challenge Mr. Turk to provide evidence of such claims.
