UPA Response to Government Accusations
The United People’s Alliance (UPA) issued a formal response to the Government of South Sudan regarding UN High Commissioner Volker Türk’s reports on the human rights situation in the country. The UPA expressed concern over the government’s dismissive stance towards the grave human rights violations highlighted in the report, asserting that the government’s failure to address these issues perpetuates a culture of impunity. They condemned military operations leading to civilian harm, including potential war crimes. The UPA also refuted accusations made against them related to civilian killings, clearly stating that such actions were carried out by armed militias allied to the government. The UPA remains committed to fostering a peaceful and democratic South Sudan grounded in human rights.
