UNMISS condemns ambush on its patrol in Jonglei and killing of two peacekeepers

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has condemned an ambush on its patrol in Jonglei state, which resulted in the deaths of two peacekeepers and injuries to seven others, including peacekeepers and local personnel. The mission has deployed a Quick Reaction Force to secure the area and support emergency response efforts. Anita Kiki Gbeho, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of UNMISS, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and emphasized the unacceptability of violence against UN personnel, calling for an investigation into the attack.
