A claim widely shared on the WhatsApp platform that the National Electoral Commission of South Sudan is recruiting staff is false. The claimed advertisement has a link attached (archived) to it at the end with the words, “NEC STAFF RECRUITMENT 2024.”
The message reads that ‘’ The National Electoral Commission of South Sudan (NEC) has opened an application portal to recruit new workers to fill the various available positions against the upcoming election. Application is free for all interested citizens, and employment has already started. Don’t miss this great opportunity.’’

Debunking the Claim:
A Google keyword search of the main words “ Is South Sudan NEC recruiting staff 2024?” returned results showing in 2024 NEC recruited, but why is the advert still circulating in late 2025?
The message uses the external short link TinyURL, which is not the official domain for the South Sudan National Electoral Commission. And their advertisements are made via official NEC communication and national media outlets, not via unverified WhatsApp links.
In further investigation, the official NEC website does not have a recruitment portal online.
This prompted the team at The ClarityDesk to scan the link using VirusTotal: a free online service that analyses files, URLs, and IP addresses to detect malicious content like viruses, worms, and trojans using over 70 antivirus engines and website scanners. It shows that the link is embedded with Malware and Phishing software.

The domain information on whois of the claim url shows that it was registered in 2002 and will expire in 2029.

Our Verdict:
The ClarityDesk finds a claim making rounds on WhatsApp groups that the National Elections Commission is recruiting staff to be false; the WhatsApp message is embedded with malware and a phishing link, intended to steal people’s personal information, including emails, age, and phone numbers. According to the NEC official website, there are no employment opportunities at the time of publishing this article.
