RJMEC releases its latest quarterly report, warns South Sudan peace implementation at a critical juncture as elections approach

The Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) released its Quarterly Report on the status of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) for the period from April 1 to June 30, 2026. The report indicates that while there has been some progress in implementing the peace agreement, significant challenges persist, causing strain on the peace process as elections approach. Key issues identified include a political and security impasse, an incomplete transitional security arrangement, and worsening humanitarian conditions, leaving millions vulnerable. The upcoming elections, scheduled for December 22, 2026, pose additional concerns regarding their credibility and inclusivity due to these unresolved challenges.
