FACT-CHECK: The viral JIT Mart Christmas gift link is a scam

A claim doing rounds on WhatsApp and other social media platforms alleging that JIT Mart is giving exclusive Christmas gifts is false.

“Celebrate Christmas with JIT Mart and receive your exclusive present today!” The link preview reads in part.

The shared URL had a random-looking domain and path, which are not widely recognised or trusted. The domain is exploited for scams or phishing because the link has hidden destinations that can’t tell what site it points to.

Debunking the Claim:

The URL is not an official JIT Mart website; it’s a suspicious one, and its domain does not have legitimate information that matches JIT Mart’s known presence on Facebook and Instagram.

The official JIT Mart South Sudan has a Facebook page and Instagram and has posted legitimate seasonal promotions (“Christmas Special — 15% off on all items”).

This supermarket/hypermarket, JIT Mart, with physical locations in Juba, South Sudan, is known locally as a grocery/household store.
