A claim posted on Facebook and Instagram alleging that Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State Governor Simon Ober transported money to Bar Mayen — Aweil Center County is false.
The post published (archived) by the Aweil Homeland Facebook page on 21st November 2025 claimed that security forces in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State — Aweil had seized two cars loaded with sacks of money on their way to Bar Mayen — Aweil Center County.
“According to reliable sources, those two cars belong to incumbent Governor of NBGS/Aweil, Hon. Simon Ober who is currently in Juba after being summoned by the President yesterday,” the posts claimed.
The Facebook post which was accompanied by the picture of the governor garnered 245 reactions, 110 comments and 18 shares, all of which made it go viral.
“Security forces in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State-Aweil have seized two cars loaded with sacks of money on their way to Bar Mayen-Aweil Center County,” read the post in part.

Debunking the Claim:
An official press release from the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Ministry of Information and Communication confirms that no such incident occurred. The ministry states that the claim circulating is “false” and urges the public to disregard it.

In addition, a keyword search on the internet with the words ‘Did security arrest two with cash in Northern Bahr el Ghazal? ‘ The results are negative.
Among the results are reports by credible news outlets Sudans Post, Rumbek East Media and Aweil News Agency. All the above media houses tagged the official document signed and released by the office of the state governor.
Our Verdict:
The ClarityDesk has found the claim that Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State Governor Simon Ober transported money to Bar-Mayen on two trucks that were seized by security to be false. There is no evidence showing that two trucks ferrying South Sudanese Pound were intercepted in the state, according to the Ministry of Information and Communication.
