A claim widely shared on WhatsApp with a link alleging a “Nilepet — 2026 New Year Gift,” is false.
The message which has been forwarded to many WhatsApp groups and direct messages has been making rounds since early January 2026.
“Congratulations! Nilepet — 2026 New Year Gift. Through the questionnaire, you will have a chance to get SSP 500,000,” the claim partly reads.
Debunking the Claim:
A URL scan through Totalvirus has said the link is suspicious.
And a search to get domain information and domain registration on Whois, which is registered on 22 October 2025 and will expire on 22 October 2026 under the Domain Registrar: CHENGDU WEST DIMENSION DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.

While the claim bears the official Logo of Nilepet Petroleum Corporation also known as NilePET, the company is not offering any New Year gift as claimed, and the link attached is not the official website of Nile Petroleum Corporation registered on 12 June 2014 according to Whois domain information.
