South Sudan convenes national stakeholders to accelerate WHO FCTC ratification

The Ministry of Health of South Sudan, with support from the World Health Organization, is organizing a high-level national stakeholder orientation on September 1-2, 2026, to promote the country’s ratification of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC). The meeting aims to enhance understanding of tobacco-related issues and facilitate coordinated actions towards ratification. About 50 representatives from various sectors are expected to participate. The orientation emphasizes the need for strong legislative and policy measures to combat tobacco use, protect public health, and safeguard future generations. The urgency of these actions is highlighted due to the preventable health issues and economic losses caused by tobacco use.
